Rentokil Initial Marketing Career

Sophie James

Marketing Manager for Rentokil Specialist Hygiene

I've worked for Rentokil Initial since 2015.

After completing my English degree at Bournemouth University, I joined Rentokil Initial's Marketing team. Now, I'm a Marketing Manager!

Career at Rentokil Initial

  • What do you do all day? - My day-to-day is never the same and has changed a lot throughout my time at Rentokil Initial. Currently, as the Marketing Manager for Rentokil Specialist Hygiene, at any one time, I can be juggling the creation of internal communications for colleagues, writing customer-facing content or working with the Technical and Innovations Manager and Operations Director to launch new innovations to our sales and technical teams. This is on top of launching these innovations to our customers and helping with everything that comes with the process.

  • What do you love about your job? - I love how varied my role is. It means that I'm always learning and I have gained a lot of knowledge about both the business I work for and the different elements of services marketing.

  • Why did you join Rentokil Initial? - I had just finished university and was looking for a marketing graduate scheme. Ideally, I wanted to join a big company that could offer me experience and career progression, Rentokil Initial was a great fit!

  • Talk us through your career so far - The structure of the Marketing Graduate Scheme allowed me to work my way forward each year. I started in 2015 as a Marketing Assistant and was quickly promoted to a Marketing Executive, working with multiple businesses, before moving to the role of Junior Product Marketing Manager for Rentokil Specialist Hygiene. In this role, I was able to focus on a single business and, during this time, the company supported me in my study for a marketing qualification outside of work! I was promoted to my current role of Marketing Manager when I completed my graduate scheme in 2018.

  • Where do you want to go from here - I am still developing in my role as Marketing Manager and I am looking to gain as much exposure as possible in all aspects of the role. At a company as big as Rentokil Initial, there are always opportunities to progress so I will see what happens!

  • What makes you a Rentokil Initial person? - My desire to learn new things and to continue to push myself forward is why I fit into the Rentokil Initial culture.

  • What advice would you give to marketers considering working at Rentokil Initial? - The best way to learn is by getting stuck-in and giving things a go, which you will definitely have the chance to do at Rentokil Initial. You have to be willing to put in the time and hard work, but you gain a lot of experience and knowledge in return.
