Specialist Services Consultant
I've worked here for 15 years, with a six month break in 2011.
My job is a mixture of both Field Support, and Office Based roles. Every day is different in some way and yet I have regular routine work to do. I work with a wide variety of colleagues who come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
What do you do all day? - I'm responsible for 17 Surveyors and their meeting of sales targets within Specialist Services Sales. I manage the quotes and ensure that we are quoting the correct solution, that the access equipment the surveyors have selected is the best and safest method of working at height. I'm responsible for ensuring that the Risk Assessments and Method Statements are correct and in place before work commences. So my role is part field based and part office based
What training did you receive when you joined RI? - Six weeks of Basic Technical Training then three weeks of Field Sales Training with ongoing classroom based Sales Training, much different to how surveyors are trained today. Since then I have been trained in Vertebrate Pest Management. The use of Phostoxin against Rabbits, Moles and Rats. Safe Working at Height. Use of ManSafe and Fall Arrest Systems. Respirator Face Fit Testing. etc, etc, etc. The correct Training never ends!
Talk us through your career so far - I was a Surveyor for four years making the Achievers Club twice during that time. I then became one of the first Local Operations Managers in 2006/7. I left for six months in 2011 then returned as a Key Account Manager later that year, managing accounts in the Food and Food Retail Sector such as JD Wetherspoon, Prezzo, Dominos Pizza, Bella Italia, Cafe Rouge, Spar Shops, Budgens, Londis. Buying Groups such as Beacon, Pelican and Leisure Supply Group. In the Leisure Sector I managed Empire and Showcase Cinema Groups. A role I held until October 2015. I'm now a Specialist Services Consultant and was Specialist Services Consultant of the Year in 2016.
Where do you want to go from here? - Although, because of my age, people think that my next move will be into retirement, they're wrong! I plan to stay in this role for a further five years or so then, who knows? Rentokil Specialist Hygiene has areas where I can make a good contribution and has an exciting future ahead.
What makes you a "Rentokil person"? - Once you have shown that you are competent in Rentokil, you can become part of the Rentokil Family and work wherever you wish. As I look around I still see that a lack of formal educational qualifications will not be a barrier to your success. When I left the Company in 2011 I didn't return because of money, car or benefits, far from it. I came back to Rentokil because I missed the Rentokil Family.
What advice would you give to Sales Consultants? - You will receive world class training. You have been selected for your aptitude, your success will be 100% down to your attitude. This not just a job, it's a career, remember, you'll go as far as your talent can take you. Welcome to the Rentokil Family!
