Rentokil Initial Jed Holman

Jed Holman

Service Team Leader

I joined Rentokil Initial on the Rentokil Pest Control graduate scheme in 2017.

I have always had a big interest in animals and I found myself involved with pest control from time to time in the countryside before I joined.

Career at Rentokil Initial

  • What do you do all day? - I manage our everyday service, making sure profit and efficiency targets are met whilst keeping customers satisfied and happy. My work phone is constantly ringing, as I am the direct point of contact for the technicians I manage.

  • What do you love about your job? - I love how challenging the job is! It was a bit of a whirlwind when I was promoted to Service Team Leader, but there are always people to help. The other team leaders in other branches have been really supportive.

  • Talk us through your career so far - I was promoted to Service Team Leader from Service Technician in August 2018. I am currently attending an Aspiring Managers’ course to continue my development and prepare for the next stage in my career. I have already completed my British Pest Control Association (BPCA) Levels 1 and 2, a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Customer Service qualification and I’ve already started my Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification.

  • Where do you want to go from here? - I want to take the next step to a Local Operations Manager, but I need to complete my training and put into practice what I am learning in the Aspiring Managers programme, such as finances, bad debt, payment terms and many other things that my manager currently deals with.

  • What training did you receive when you joined? - I attended 6 weeks’ training at my local branch and in the classroom with a mentor. I spent a week in Crawley for my BPCA Level 1 qualification and completed my Level 2 qualification within six months of joining. There are also other training opportunities, for example, marksman training, that you can get stuck into.

  • What makes you a Rentokil Initial person? - It’s the people in Rentokil Initial who make us what we are. There are people who provide these services self-employed, but many of our former colleagues who try this always come back to us, they miss us!

  • What advice would you give to potential graduate applicants? - Give it a go, it’s really interesting. All of the training and learning involved can seem daunting at first but after six months you’ll wonder why you were even worried at all!
